The FDA recently approved a new weight loss pen for use in the United States. This injection is for chronic weight management in obese adults. It can help adults achieve weight loss with a once-a-week injection.

Weight Loss Pen Northern Virginia

Wegovy, semaglutide, is the first approved drug for chronic weight management in adults with obesity since 2014. It is for patients with obesity or patients who are overweight and suffer from at least one weight related problem like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol. This weight loss pen combined with a reduced caloric intake and increased physical activity can help patients lose weight and maintain weight loss goals.

How Wegovy Works

weight loss pen

Wegovy mimics a hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). The body releases this hormone after eating. It targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake. The injection makes patients feel fuller, so they consume fewer calories. In turn, the patient can lose weight.

Clinical Trials

This new weight loss pen has been studied in four 68-week trials. One study in 2021 consisted of 1,961 adults with a BMI over 30. The treatment group self-administer weekly injections of 2.4 mg of semaglutide. The control group received a placebo in the same way. All participants followed a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity. They also received counseling sessions every 4 weeks to help maintain lifestyle changes.

Significant Results with New Weight Loss Pen

In the treatment group, participants lost on average, 14.9% of their body mass over the course of the trial. Those receiving the placebo reduced their weight by 2.4%. Additionally, over half of the those in the treatment group lose more than 15% of their body weight.

CoolSculpting vs. Semaglutide in Northern Virginia

Is semaglutide better than CoolSculpting? Semaglutide injections are a form of medical weight loss. This injection can help patients lose weight. But is it better than CoolSculpting?

What is Semaglutide?

You’ve probably heard of Wegovy or Ozempic. These are brand names for an injection called semaglutide. Semaglutide mimics the effects of the hormone glucagon-like peptide-1. This allows it to regulate appetite, control blood sugar levels, and increase feelings of fullness.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting uses cold technology to destroy fat. Cryolipolysis is a non-surgical procedure that eliminates fat cells by essentially freezing them to death. During the treatment, the provider places an applicator on the treatment area. This device applies controlled cooling to targeted areas like the stomach, thighs, or arms.

What we are really looking at is weight loss vs fat loss because these are two different things. Coolsculpting is not a weight loss procedure. It does not address the underlying causes of weight gain or promote overall health improvements. However, it is a highly effective method of eliminating stubborn fat in hard-to-reach areas. It can also help boost your confidence and self-esteem.

Semaglutide or other weight loss injections can be a great option for many people. In fact, they can work in conjunction with CoolSculpting or other body contouring methods. Once you are close to your target weight, CoolSculpting can help you shed those last stubborn pounds and target specific areas for weight loss.

Treatment Areas

When you lose weight, it generally comes from all over your body. Despite what many Instagram fitness influencers would have you believe, there is no such thing as targeted fat loss. Doing crunches won’t reduce the fat on your stomach. But CoolSculpting will. So, if you have lost weight with Wegovy or Ozempic but still have problems areas, consider CoolSculpting.

CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared for the treatment of visible fat bulges in the:

Weight loss injections are a good option for many people. But they don’t replace body contouring. Often, rapid weight loss can lead to loose, sagging skin. Body contouring can help this. And as we mentioned above, weight loss injections won’t help you target specific areas of fat, but Coolsculpting and Emsculpt can.
